How to Repair a Burnt AC Motor

How to Repair a Burnt AC Motorthumbnail If your AC goes out in the summer, expect to be sweating. In the middle of summer, there are few bigger calamities than having your air conditioner (AC) malfunction, particularly in the middle of a heat wave. If the motor burns out, you may need a professional to replace it. If you catch the problem in time, however, you may be able to repair it yourself if you have experience disassembling and fixing electrical motors.

Observe your AC motor. If you smell heated metal or oil, a lack of lubrication may be causing the problem. If the odor is more sour, the belts may be faulty. Bearings may be the culprit if your engine is grinding, and something may be blocking the ventilator if you can't even touch the AC motor because it's so hot.

Open up the AC unit and find the motor. The specific location varies by manufacturer, so consult the instructions that accompanied your system. Go to your main circuit board and turn off power leading to the HVAC system. If it is not labeled, you may need to turn the entire board off, shutting off all power to the house. If your motor isn't working, you may not be able to isolate the proper circuit by trial and error. If the motor turns back on while you're working on it, the risk of electrocution is extremely high.

Look for any ports marked "oil" on your AC motor's exterior. If you smell hot plastic, metal or oil, your motor may not have enough lubrication to operate correctly. Add lightweight straight oil to these ports. Check your instructions that came with your AC unit to determine the specific amount of oil to add.

Open the motor following the instructions published by your AC motor's manufacturer. Set your multimeter to RX1, and hook one probe to the white lead. Connect the other probe to the other wires coming from the motor. If you get a reading of zero resistance, or infinity, the system has a short somewhere. A low reading indicates that the operation is within tolerances. If the motor has a short, you will spend a lot less time and money replacing the motor than repairing it, so look in the instructions to find which type of motor you should buy. If the reading is within acceptable tolerances, move to Step 5.

Examine the belts inside your AC motor. If they have significant cracking or discoloration, they must be replaced. Use the setscrew to loosen the belt enough to remove it, and then to tighten the new belt into place. If the motor has been hot to the touch, move to Step 6.

Look at the blades on the fan that cools your motor. If any of them are damaged, replace them. A broken blade can cause your motor to spin out of balance, causing further damage inside the motor.

Put the motor back together and turn the electrical power back on. If these steps do not work, call a licensed HVAC technician to solve the problem.

Check your homeowner's insurance policy and your home warranty policy to ensure that you will not be invalidating coverage by attempting repairs without a license.

If you are electrocuted while working on your AC motor, the consequences could be deadly. If you have uncertainty about whether current is running into your HVAC system when you are ready to work on it, it's better to turn off power to the whole house.

How to repair the front brakes of a truck Chevy Venture 2002

Chevrolet introduced its first way van back in 1961. Chevy van name his Chevrolet Corvair Greenbrier 1961, as the automaker is based on the Corvair. In 1964, Chevrolet has released a new van bearing the name Chevy Van not-so-creative. In another case odd naming, Chevrolet released its first minivan bearing a name almost identical as its popular sedan-the Lumina APV. In 1997 Chevy finally got creative and released a new van, and interrupted the Lumina. The Venture 2002 came standard with a 185-horsepower engine, 3.4-litre and front disc brakes. Unscrew the tank lid of the cylinder brake mater and cutting off nearly half of the fluid from the tank, using a Turkey baster. Transfer this fluid in a small container.

Loosen, but do not remove the lug nuts, front of the van, using a ratchet and socket or lug. Raise the front of the company, using a floor jack and slide racks under van subframe. Lower Trestles on the enterprise.

Loosen the two clamp bolts to the rear caliper, using a ratchet and socket. Pull clamp clamp bolts from--note that have a threaded section and a smooth section. Pull the caliper bracket and hang it from a nearby suspension component, using the rope of a mechanical or a crutch. Grasp the inner and outer brake pads and pull them from the caliper bracket.

Remove the two retaining bolts bracket, gauge, using a ratchet and socket and pull the caliper bracket from the Steering knuckle. Pull out the front rotor hub. If the rotor does not pull out easily, lightly tap once on the back of it with a rubber hammer to free her. Inspect the rotor for any defects, including a mirror-like shine, deep grooves or cracks. If there is no defect, replace the rotor with a new one. Set the rotor hub.

Set the front caliper bracket on Subpart steering knuckle and his two hand-threaded bolts. Tighten bolts, retaining bracket clamp in 137 LB, using a torque wrench and socket. Set new brake pads in the caliper with the metal outer wear on the pad facing up.

Set the old inner pad inside the brake caliper piston, then contact the gripper. Place a C clamp 8 inches above the clamp, so the fixed side touches the rear caliper and the lives it touches the old inner pad. Tighten the clamp c until the pill stops moving.

Set the caliper bracket clamp. Apply a generous hand of disc brake grease to smooth parts bolt clamp--you don't get any grease on the threaded part. Insert the clamp bolts in clamp and bracket and bolts of hand-wire pliers. Tighten the clamp bolts to 40 LB, using a torque wrench and socket.

Repeat steps 3 to 7 to replace the brake pads on the opposite side of the enterprise.

Install the front wheels of the van on front hubs and tighten the nuts front hand. Raise the van out racks, using a floor jack and remove the Trestles. Lowering the firm ground. Tighten the nuts in a cross pattern, 100 lb.

Press and release the brake pedal, until it feels firm. Add new brake fluid DOT 3 to the master cylinder Reservoir until the brake fluid level reaches the line "Max" on the tank. Tighten the CAP back on the tank.

Take the old brake fluid to a recycling center for used fluid disposal. Some auto parts store recycle automotive fluids for free.

How to repair the front brakes on 2001 Jeep Wrangler

Even if you went with a different name, history of Jeep Wrangler stretches back to the release of the Willys-Overland Jeep CJ-2A, built-in 1945. In 1987, the Wrangler-YJ-series-took over for the jeep CJ series, but was surprisingly similar to its predecessors. The YJ remained for nine years, and the series TJ replaced. The Wranglers TJ had even more styling cues taken from CJ-series-more evident is the round headlights. The 2001 Wrangler came standard with four-wheel drive and front disc brakes, and could handle the rough and mountainous terrain. Open the hood of Wrangler and unscrew the lid from the master cylinder reservoir. Remove about half of the brake fluid, using a Turkey baster and transfer this fluid in a small container for disposal.

Loosen the nuts front, using a ratchet and socket. Raise the front of the Wrangler off the ground with a floor jack and slide racks under the frame rails of the SUV. Lower the Jeep rail chassis. Remove the nuts front and pull out the vehicle's front wheels.

Remove the two screws, keeping, using a ratchet and socket and pull out the bracket clamp gripper. Suspending the caliper from a nearby suspension component, with mechanic.

Press one side of the pad outside inwards until the card on the back of the pad is free from the hole in the caliper, then rotate that side of the pad of the brake caliper. Repeat this process on the opposite side of the pad to remove the pad from the external brake caliper.

C clamp position 8 inches above the clamp so the lives it touches the inner pad and fixed contacts on the back of the brake caliper. Tighten the clamp c until the inner pad stops moving and the piston caliper behind it is completely backward. Remove the C-clamp.

Grasp the inner pad and pull it towards the outside of the gripper-a series of metal "fingers" of tractor in piston caliper. Remove the inner pad caliper once "fingers" are free piston caliper.

Remove the screw rotor brake hub front, with a screwdriver. If the screw won't turn easily, lightly tap once on the head of the screw with a hammer to free her. Pull the front rotor hub and inspect it for defects, including deep ruts, mirror-like shine or stress cracks. If there is no defect, discard the rotor and replace it with a new one.

Set the front rotor hub and tighten the screw with a screwdriver.

"Fingers" on the back of a new pad inside the cavity in piston Calliper and press the pad on the clamp until the seat pad on the caliper.

Set the external on the caliper body pad and remove the metal clip on one side of the pad to the top, using a flat-head screwdriver. Slide the side of the pad pried into the clamp until the card on the back of the pad inserts into the hole of the forceps. Repeat this step on the opposite side of the pad.

Apply a generous hand of disc brakes on the smooth both clamp bolts. Set the caliper bracket onto her back and slide the clamp bolts in clamp and bracket. Hand-wire clamp bolts, then tighten to 11 LB, using a torque wrench and socket.

Repeat steps 3 to 11 for the shoes on the opposite side of the Wrangler.

Reinstall the front wheels on front hubs of Wrangler and tighten the nuts by hand. Lift the SUV off the racks, using a floor jack and remove the Trestles. Lower the Jeep. Tighten the nuts in a cross pattern, to 110 LB, using a torque wrench and socket.

Press and release the brake pedal, until it feels firm. Adding DOT 3 brake fluid to the master cylinder Reservoir until the level of the liquid reaches the line "Max" on the tank. Tighten the cap on the master cylinder reservoir.

Take the old DOT 3 fluid removed in step 1, to a recycling center fluid used cars. Some auto parts stores take old brake fluid for free.

How to repair decayed Rim Boards

Boards, also known as rim joists, are important components in the construction of the bridge. A Council Board is located below the deck boards along the outer perimeter of the bridge, usually consisting of a piece of 2-by-6. On-board tables do not carry as much weight as regular joists on the underside of the bridge. Use these joists for Crown bridge along the outside to make it look more finished. Remove all screws of the platform edge to edge rotted in place using a power drill. Locate the joist hangers holding the house edge to edge. The Council will sit in hanger joist against the House.

Hold one end of the hanger joist and have support to loosen the hanger joist from its current location with a power drill. Keep the edge to edge, therefore does not fall when the hanger joist is loosened. Joist hanger set aside for future use.

Measure the Board edge which was removed just so you can install a new card edge of the correct size. Mark the new Board to Board in the correct position and align the blade of a circular saw to the mark on the Board.

Cut straight across the Board on board with the circular saw in the desired position and align where the old one was to verify that the correct size has been cut off. Push the hook in place prestressed backup and screw it to the wall with a power drill.

Tighten the two screws on the external platform running in each joist in postcard of the circle. Move down the entire piece until it is firmly to the bottom of the bridge. Inspect the rim to rim and verify correctly installed and that it is safe in all locations.

Always wear safety glasses when working with a circular saw. This will help protect the eyes from flying pieces of wood and other debris.
