Monitor and maintain your engine regularly. Cars require a great deal of maintenance, as every component plays a role in ensuring that your vehicle functions properly. The water pump's job is to support the cooling system. It carries out a circular process, moving coolant from the radiator, throughout the engine and then returning to the pump. However, this comprises only a small part of your engine's cooling system, which also includes the radiator, thermostat and hoses. With this in mind, it is critical that you diagnose a problem with your water pump so that you can confirm or rule out its role in a malfunctioning cooling system.

Listen to your car. If you hear a screeching sound emanating from your engine, a broken water pump is a possible cause.

Look under your car. If you notice puddles or drops of coolant on the ground under your car's engine, then the coolant is leaking. This is an indication of a broken water pump. This is actually a safeguard designed into the water pump. Known as a "weep hole," this hole leaks to indicate that some of the pump's seals are broken.

Monitor your engine's heat. All vehicles have gauges indicating the engine's heat level. If you notice that the thermometer indicates a higher heat level than you normally see, then there is a problem with your cooling system. One potential cause is that the water pump cannot circulate coolant properly.

Inspect your engine on a regular basis, such as during an oil change, to make sure everything is running smoothly.

Unless you are trained in car maintenance, do not attempt to fix the water pump on your own. Have a certified mechanic look at it for you.

When you don't have a seasonal holiday to celebrate, create a generic garland with flowers and leaves that matches the room's decor. For an extra touch, thread a string of white ornamental lights through the garland.

The size and number of framed pieces of art you add to a home's mantel depend on the distance between the mantel and ceiling. In a great room with high ceilings, for example, use large framed art or family photos. When you have a mantel close to the ceiling, use several smaller pieces of art or photos. A thoughtful touch is to feature photos of deceased family members so they are remembered at family gatherings.

Using a glaze or metallic finish is an ideal way to create an accent wall. When painting a room, you may usually find yourself relying on the color to spice up the look of the walls. However, while color is an effective way to add dimension to your walls, a textured finish can provide an added boost that makes your room pop. Using a metallic or glazed finish for your walls may require some extra work, but the finished look is usually well worth the effort. You can choose from several eye-catching metallic and glazed looks for your wall, so you can find the ideal finish for any room in your home.

One of the easiest ways to create a metallic wall is to use paint with a metallic finish. You can find the paint in a variety of colors, so you aren’t limited to gold, silver or copper. While you can paint your walls with solid metallic paint, the effect may be too flashy depending on the color of the pain and the size of your room. An interesting alternative is use a metallic paint and satin finish paint in the same color to paint stripes on your walls. The effect is subtle, but it provides texture and sheen that give your walls an eye-catching look.

If you are decorating a room in an old-world style, consider creating an accent wall with a faux metal patina finish for your walls. A patina faux finish utilizes several of paint to give your wall an antiqued look and interesting texture. Start with a basecoat of matte white or black paint. After it has dried, use a brush or sponge to apply a layer of dark green paint, stippling the color on to avoid harsh lines. While the green coat is still wet, sponge on a layer of turquoise paint. Choose a metallic paint such as gold or silver to go over the turquoise as a highlight. To smooth out the sponging marks, use a rag to gently pat the surface and add texture.

For an elegant look on your walls, a glazed silk faux finish is an attractive option. Begin by painting the wall with your chosen semi-gloss base color. Wait at least a day after you apply the second coat before applying the faux finish. To make the glaze, mix one part tinted metallic glaze and one part translucent glaze until thoroughly combined. Use an angled, synthetic brush to apply the glaze in a 2-foot section at the top corner of your wall and a 2-foot section at the bottom. Before the glaze dries, use a roller to cover the entire wall with the glaze. Next, drag a wallpaper brush down the wet glaze in a single, smooth motion, keeping the line straight as you move toward the floor. Wipe off the brush and repeat the process on the next section of wall. Repeat the entire procedure until your entire wall is covered.

Like a faux silk finish, a faux denim wall finish requires the use of a glaze. Apply a basecoat of semi-gloss paint in a blue shade and allow it to dry before applying a second coat. After the paint has dried for 24 hours, measure out small sections that are approximately 42 inches in width and apply the glaze in a thin layer with a thoroughly saturated roller. Near the ceiling and trim, use a small brush to apply the glaze. While the glaze is still wet, use a dry denim weaver brush to go over the area, moving left to right in a smooth, even strokes. Between strokes, wipe off the brush so it remains fairly dry. Next, go over the entire section in horizontal strokes before completing the same procedure with vertical strokes.

How to Create a Legacy Expansion Fraternity

Legacy fraternities build brotherhood among men. Legacy expansion fraternities are a creative way to build your organization and include family members as part of your association. Legacy fraternities, according to Pi Kappa Phi, are intended exclusively for the inclusion of direct male relatives into an already existing fraternity. While relatives are not automatically granted inclusion into the organization, members who recruit members of their family boost the possibilities of expanding the influence of their fraternity.

Consult existing fraternity charters, constitutions and by-laws about the possibility of creating a legacy expansion aspect of the fraternity. Discuss the possibility with fraternity leaders. Present a formal proposal, if necessary. Include the purpose of a legacy expansion and how it will function, as well as rules and guidelines for members.

Nominate officers through a vote or an established fraternity selection process. Select a president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer to handle leadership responsibilities and legacy fraternity coordination.

Consult with existing fraternity constitutions, college facilities or city government officials -- in the city where the legacy fraternity is established -- to obtain any necessary permissions or licenses for holding events, promoting the fraternity or collecting membership dues.

Manufacturers say steam removes wrinkles and odors from laundry. When shopping for a new clothes dryer, you’ll notice manufacturers proclaiming the benefits of the steam technology offered on higher-priced models. They say steam dryers can remove wrinkles and odors from clothes, although Consumer Reports found mixed results on the successful use of steam in its testing. If you want to invest in a steam dryer, you can choose from gas or electric models.

Clothes dryers incorporate steam in various ways. For example, LG offers a steam-based cycle designed to sanitize items you cannot wash safely. The company also incorporates steam into a short cycle that allows you to remove wrinkles from up to five pieces of clothing at a time. GE offers a similar option. Frigidaire allows users to add steam to several different cycles, including normal, delicates and jeans. Some models also have steam refresh cycles that targets odors.

LG, Frigidaire and GE aren’t the only manufacturers offering dryers with steam technology. You can also find steam on models from Samsung, Electrolux, Kenmore, Maytag and Whirlpool. Available colors for steam dryers include red, white, silver, blue, charcoal gray and brown.

Consumer Reports advises that gas dryers typically cost $50 to $150 more than electric models, and steam dryers are no exception. For example, Samsung suggested a retail price of $1,399 for its 7.5-cubic-foot electric DV511AER/XAA in September 2011, while the gas version of that dryer cost $70 more. The amount you save on fuel costs when using a gas dryer should offset its higher purchase price over time.

Dryers offering steam features tend to be among the highest-capacity units in a manufacturer’s product line. Steam dryers typically range from 7 to 7.5 cubic feet of capacity. However, Whirlpool has an option with 6.7 cubic feet, and Electrolux has a steam dryer with 8 cubic feet of space. Steam dryers usually measure 27 inches wide. They stand 36 to 45 7/16 inches high and 28 15/16 to 33 inches deep.

The federal government encourages charitable giving. There is no law in the United States that limits how many different days during a given year you can make a charitable donation to a particular organization. Give ten bucks daily to Goodwill every day of the year if you like. As long as the organization is a registered, credible charity, and your record-keeping is up to snuff, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) won't care in the least if you claim the deduction.

The charity of choice must be recognized by the IRS as a nonprofit organization, which means they must have received tax-exempt status. If you have any doubts about the legitimacy of the charity, contact the IRS or the applicable state's department of revenue to see if the appropriate paperwork is on file. While you can certainly donate cash or property to anyone you like, don't expect a tax deduction without performing due diligence.

The IRS requires stellar record-keeping if you plan to deduct charitable donations from your taxes. In the first place, you must itemize your deductions using Form 1040 Schedule A. It's a good idea to keep proof of the donation in the form of receipts, canceled checks, appraisals of donated property and notes from the organization. You need proof for each donation, regardless of whether they occurred on the same day or at various times throughout the year.

The only thing you need to be concerned with is that you don't pass the limit set by the IRS and expressed as a percentage of your adjusted gross income (AGI). Cash gifts can be deducted up to 50 percent of your income, while property donations can't exceed 30 percent of income, and donations of appreciated capital gains assets cannot be more than 20 percent.

If the sum total of donations you made in any single calendar year exceed the established limits, you can carry the deduction over into the next tax year. The time limit for carrying deductions is five years. If you still have an outstanding balance after that, no more deduction can be claimed. You cannot deduct the value of time spent working for a nonprofit organization. The word for that is simply volunteerism.

How to Refurbish a Countertop

Outdated countertops are expensive to replace, especially if you are considering using a material such as granite. Instead of taking the time to tear out your current countertop and replace it with an expensive new one, consider refurbishing it with paint. Countertop kits, which help you apply a faux granite finish for a fraction of the cost and labor of installing a new countertop, are available at local home improvement stores.

Remove all items from the countertops. Place drop cloths on the floor and use painter's tape to cover areas where the countertops meet the walls, sink borders and other areas that may be exposed to the paint.

Sand the surface of the countertop to remove any glossy finish or imperfections. Don't sand the surface hard enough to create lines or imperfections; only sand to remove or tarnish the glossy finish so the paint will stick.

Wash the countertops with warm, soapy water and wipe them dry with a clean washcloth. Allow the countertops to air-dry for an hour.

Apply a coating of primer to the countertops' surface if the material is wood or metal; laminate and vinyl do not require a primer coating.

Prepare the paint kit according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Stir the paint well to make sure the color is mixed through without streaks.

Using a small paintbrush, apply the paint in a thin coat to the edges and corners of each countertop. Don't apply a heavy coat of paint, which gives the countertops a thick look. Use a roller to apply paint to the remaining portions of the countertop. Allow the surface to dry for several hours, and apply a second coat if necessary.

Sprinkle the decorative flakes on the countertop’s surface after you have applied the desired color and coat. The surface of the countertop must be wet for the flakes to adhere. Allow the surface to dry according to the manufacturer’s instructions; some decorative flakes require only an hour while others require up to 24 hours.

Apply the glaze or finish coat to the surface of the countertop. This will give the countertop a smooth finish and shiny coating. Give the countertops one to three days, depending on the manufacturer, to cure and dry before replacing items or using the surfaces.

Measure the wall space with a tape measure to get an accurate figure of the number of tiles you need to purchase. You need to measure the complete width and height to get the area of each wall. Combine the figures of all walls to determine the total area to be covered.

Visit your local home-improvement retailer and check the boxes of peel-and-stick tile to learn the square footage each box covers. Divide the total area of your project by the square footage that each box covers. Your answer is the total number of boxes you’ll need. Remove the tiles by heating the surface with a hair dryer and gently pulling from the corner or each tile.

Wait at least three weeks before applying tiles to freshly painted walls.

Place a buffing pad on the bottom of a circular buffing machine. Place a 150-grit abrasive screen over the pad.

Abrade the surface of the floor lightly with the buffing machine. Sand the corners and close to the baseboards with a hand sander fitted with a 120-grit screen.

Vacuum the entire surface to remove dust. Vacuum along baseboards as well.

Wipe the floor, baseboards and walls with a cloth dampened with pure mineral spirits to remove all traces of dust.

Tip the can of floor finish back and forth to avoid producing air bubbles while gently mixing the contents. Pour the finish into a clean paint tray.

Apply the floor finish around the edges of the room with a paint brush.

Dip a long-handled floor pad into the finish. Drain excess finish from the pad. Apply the finish to the floor beginning along the edges and working outward. Use long, smooth strokes in the direction of the wood grain, overlapping each stroke.

Replace furniture after 24 hours of drying time.

A single coat of finish is sufficient for floors with minimal wear. If needed, you can apply a second coat after three hours. If you wait more than six hours, however, the surface will need to be abraded and cleaned again before a second application.

Open windows to ventilate the area during application of the polyurethane finish.

Wear a protective dust mask and goggles when screening the floor to avoid breathing in dust particles and to protect your eyes.

Move the washer slightly from its cabinet, and then loosen the lock nuts if it's not level. Place a piece of 3/4-inch plywood underneath your washer to reduce noise and vibration. Adjust the feet as necessary, and then tighten the lock nuts.

Installation and setup instructions may vary with different Kenmore front-loader washers, so always refer to your manual.

The tools that you will need on how to crochet napkins will be, number one, your crochet hook. Today we're using a size G. Number two, will be your yarn, this is 100 percent cotton. Those are really the best for crocheted napkins, would be 100 percent cotton. I've already started the stitch for the crocheted napkins. We did a single chain stitch, foundation chain of 36 and then you turn, insert your hook to start your single crochet foundation. I am to the end of my single crochet foundation, insert your hook, yarn over, pull it through and that just is how you finish the single crochet, insert hook, yarn over, pull it through and you complete the first row of your single crochet foundation for a napkin. When you reach the end of your single crochet, you turn by crocheting one, turn your project, insert hook in the first stitch, pull it through, yarn over, pull it through. That's your continuation of your single crochet. You continue this pattern for the duration of your napkin. Your napkin size is determined by what you would like the dimensions of the napkin to be. For me I like the 36 chain and I like to make at least 60 rows, but that can be based upon what your dimensions are, that's your preference for your crocheted napkin. So this is a single crocheted stitch for the duration of the single crochet napkin. When to Trim Roots for a Jade Bonsai

Both kinds of jade plant make handsome bonsais. Two different succulents are known to plant growers by the common name jade plant. In spite of the Oriental aura of the name, neither is known to have originated in China. The first, Portulacaria afra, is a member of the purslane family and comes from East Africa. The second, Crassulata ovata, belongs to the huge stonecrop family, of varied origins. Fortunately, both plants respond to the same care advice. Learn more about caring for jades, especially jade bonsais.

Both jades look confusingly alike: rounded, thick, meaty leaves; stems with a thin, papery bark and small to moderate-sized root systems. Like all succulents, jades store water with great efficiency in all parts of the plant. In the absence of insect infestation, suspect overwatering any time your plant is visibly distressed, and treat the roots as well as stems and leaves.

Overwatered jade plants show stress in all parts of the plant. Symptoms include leaf drop, stem droop and a musty smell from the planting medium. Even symptoms that might look more like an absence of water -- withered leaves and shriveling stems -- may have their origins in too much water. The first step in cases of overwatering is to remove the plant gently from its pot, so as to prove any signs of rot from the roots. Roots that are soft, slimy, covered with white fungal patches or disconnecting from the root ball need to be trimmed with sharp scissors to remove all areas affected by wetness.

Washing the pot thoroughly and replacing the old planting medium with new, dry nonorganic compost gives your plant the best chance to recuperate from root rot. After pruning, do not add any water to the pot for at least a month. Slow-growing jades need plenty of healing time. Do not plan to prune anything but damaged stems and leaves for at least three months. Some growers suggest that root and branch prunings of even healthy plants be widely spaced through the year, lessening overall stress on the plant.

Jade plants being grown in bonsai form will require more frequent prunings than jades growing free-form, but pacing is still distinctly slower for slow-growing jades than for other kinds of plants. Jades tend to be semidormant in winter; this is a good time for repotting and root pruning. This is not an annual chore. Many growers suggest repotting and root pruning every two or three years. Planting medium should be completely dry when you remove the plant from its pot. Fill the same or a new, slightly larger pot with fresh, dry medium. Using your fingers or a bonsai root-hook, gently untangle the roots, removing any dead or diseased pieces. Since pruning of healthy roots is usually a strategy used to stimulate growth, bonsai growers proceed with caution, both in pruning and in drastic increases of pot size. Healthy plants can tolerate up to roots being pruned up to one third.

Occasionally an accident will necessitate pruning of jade bonsai roots. Try to stay within the recommended one third cutback if possible. Replace the pruned plant in a similar-sized container with new dry medium and watch your plant carefully for signs of stress for the next three to six months. Do not prune the plant top unless absolutely necessary during this period and do not overwater. In general, a healthy jade bonsai benefits from an annual refreshment or replacement of its growing medium but far less frequent pruning of either roots or limbs.

How to Replace a Reinforcing Canopy Bar

If you are staging an outdoor event, such as a party or street fair, you will likely be using canopies. These are ready-to-assemble covers that are made up of frame poles and a canvas canopy roof. If you think the reinforcing bar that acts as the spine of the frame is broken, you can replace it with a new bar. This will require partial disassembly of the canopy.

Pull the stakes in the holes of the feet plates out to release the canopy from the ground.

Tilt the canopy on its side, so two of the legs are on the ground, and remove the pins from the top of the two legs where they connect to the frame connectors. Remove the two legs from the connectors.

Tilt the canopy on its opposite side, and remove the remaining legs from the connectors.

Turn the canopy over so that the canvas ceiling is on the ground and you have access to the frame. Notice the reinforcing central beam running along the center of the canopy.

Remove the pins in all frame connectors connected to the beam.

Remove all cross poles from the connectors. Remove the beam from the connectors and set it aside.

Fit a new beam in the canopy. Replace all frame connectors, cross poles and legs.

How to Repair a Burnt AC Motor

If your AC goes out in the summer, expect to be sweating. In the middle of summer, there are few bigger calamities than having your air conditioner (AC) malfunction, particularly in the middle of a heat wave. If the motor burns out, you may need a professional to replace it. If you catch the problem in time, however, you may be able to repair it yourself if you have experience disassembling and fixing electrical motors.

Observe your AC motor. If you smell heated metal or oil, a lack of lubrication may be causing the problem. If the odor is more sour, the belts may be faulty. Bearings may be the culprit if your engine is grinding, and something may be blocking the ventilator if you can't even touch the AC motor because it's so hot.

Open up the AC unit and find the motor. The specific location varies by manufacturer, so consult the instructions that accompanied your system. Go to your main circuit board and turn off power leading to the HVAC system. If it is not labeled, you may need to turn the entire board off, shutting off all power to the house. If your motor isn't working, you may not be able to isolate the proper circuit by trial and error. If the motor turns back on while you're working on it, the risk of electrocution is extremely high.

Look for any ports marked "oil" on your AC motor's exterior. If you smell hot plastic, metal or oil, your motor may not have enough lubrication to operate correctly. Add lightweight straight oil to these ports. Check your instructions that came with your AC unit to determine the specific amount of oil to add.

Open the motor following the instructions published by your AC motor's manufacturer. Set your multimeter to RX1, and hook one probe to the white lead. Connect the other probe to the other wires coming from the motor. If you get a reading of zero resistance, or infinity, the system has a short somewhere. A low reading indicates that the operation is within tolerances. If the motor has a short, you will spend a lot less time and money replacing the motor than repairing it, so look in the instructions to find which type of motor you should buy. If the reading is within acceptable tolerances, move to Step 5.

Examine the belts inside your AC motor. If they have significant cracking or discoloration, they must be replaced. Use the setscrew to loosen the belt enough to remove it, and then to tighten the new belt into place. If the motor has been hot to the touch, move to Step 6.

Look at the blades on the fan that cools your motor. If any of them are damaged, replace them. A broken blade can cause your motor to spin out of balance, causing further damage inside the motor.

Put the motor back together and turn the electrical power back on. If these steps do not work, call a licensed HVAC technician to solve the problem.

Check your homeowner's insurance policy and your home warranty policy to ensure that you will not be invalidating coverage by attempting repairs without a license.

If you are electrocuted while working on your AC motor, the consequences could be deadly. If you have uncertainty about whether current is running into your HVAC system when you are ready to work on it, it's better to turn off power to the whole house.

First, we need to review the materials that you will need to create a crocheted stitch marker. Any craft store in your local town where you live will have a section of beads and the items that you need, all of the materials to create a crocheted stitch marker. First, I think the most important thing to do is to determine the beads that you'd like to use. I have some glass beads here that are different sizes and then some smaller glass beads that are much smaller in size and then we have the pins, the actual pins that go in the stitch marker and we actually have the hook that goes into the end of the stitch marker. What will happen as your end result is you will have a crocheted stitch marker that looks like this. So now we will begin. The first thing you need to do is get one of your pins that have the flat end and then what you'll do is select a smaller glass bead. The next thing is you'll want to pick a larger size glass bead that complements the smaller one that you put on. Since we have red, I'm going to go with a gray, a dark gray, that looks really pretty. You just stick it through there and then we'll finalize it with another red small glass bead. Just select that, that's a beautiful combination. The final step will be to get your little hook and what you'll do is you'll stick the pin through the bottom of the hook. In order to make this stitch marker look like this one, you need the little tool that looks like miniature pliers and I don't happen to have that tool at the moment but any craft store will have this for you and what happens with that little tool, that little plier, you will take that tool and wrap it around and when you've wrapped it around, the tool will break the needle and then your stitch marker will be completed and your end result will look just like this. Window coverings such as awnings can help to save on energy costs for your home. Awnings come in a variety of fabric colors and custom sizes that can enhance the exterior of your home. Sunbrella is a common fabric used on home awnings. Many consumers are confused about the rainproof capabilities of this material.

Sunbrella is a woven synthetic canvas material made from solution-dyed acrylic fiber by DuPont Chemical, according to the Santa Barbara Canvas website. It has been in use for more than 30 years and is used in many outdoor products such as patio umbrellas, awnings, marine coverings and other outdoor products. Sunbrella offers a 10-year warranty with 140 styles and colors.

Sunbrella awnings come in a range of colors and styles to suit any home exterior. Sunbrella fabric is color-fast and resistant to fading, cracking, scratching and hardening. It will resist mildew growth as well and is lightweight enough to provide adequate draping for a number of uses. Stretching and shrinking is minimal with Sunbrella fabric. Sunbrella products provide up to 90 percent UV protection from sun rays, according to the Accent Awnings website.

Awnings are designed to shade against sun, and not necessarily against rain. However, Sunbrella fabric is coated with a water-repellent fluorocarbon chemical finish that, though not rainproof, will shed rain and keep it from pooling on the material. This water-repellent ability will diminish over the life of the fabric, so homeowners should re-treat the awning with water-repellent products after washing.

Sunbrella awning fabric should be cleaned with a mild detergent. Homeowners should first brush off loose dirt from the awning, then wet it down with the garden hose. After mixing a solution of soap and water, apply it to the awning and scrub with a soft bristle brush. Then, rinse and allow to air-dry. Though Sunbrella fabric resists mildew growth, it may still grow on dirt or stains that are ground into the fabric fibers. Adding 1 cup of chlorine bleach to the soap solution will help to eliminate mildew growth as well as remove stains from tree sap or other outdoor residues. Washing will remove the water-repellent chemicals on the Sunbrella material, so homeowners should re-treat the fabric after washing with an approved Sunbrella water-repellent compound. Do not dry clean Sunbrella fabrics. If you choose to use an awning cleaning company, ensure that they have experience in working with Sunbrella fabrics.

Paint the walls a basecoat of blue. In Pixie Hollow, the land where Tinker Bell and her fairy friends live, all four seasons exist simultaneously so that the different fairies can practice ushering the different seasons in and out. Recreate the four seasons to create a bedroom your little one will not soon forget. Create your own fairy room, inspired by Pixie Hollow, using paint and supplies found at the local craft store.

Paint the bedroom walls a light, sky blue using your preferred brand of interior wall paint. Apply a second coat of paint, if necessary. Let the paint dry overnight.

Draw a mural on the wall with chalk depicting springtime. Include trees, flowers in bloom, grass and fluffy clouds. Paint the mural using acrylic paints. Use vibrant colors for the flowers. Make the grass and trees full and green. Let the paint dry overnight.

Repeat the process, drawing and painting three more murals on the remaining walls to represent summer, fall and winter. For summer, keep the sky cloud free with a large sun. Add a pond and rope swing. For fall, use oranges, reds and yellows for the leaves. Paint leaves on the ground and no flowers. For winter, use lots of white to indicate snow. Make the trees leaf-free, unless you want to add a snow-covered evergreen. If desired, include animals in the mural, such as a snow rabbit in winter or blue bird in spring. Let the paint dry overnight.

Wet a sponge with clean water. Squeeze out the excess to keep it moist but not soaked. Wipe all four walls with the sponge to remove any chalk left behind.

Hang curtains in shimmer fabric to represent the look of fairy wings. Choose tulle, organza or a metallic sheen curtain, based on your privacy needs. Use a fairy or butterfly pin as a curtain clip.

Secure 20 to 30 eye hooks to the ceiling, depending on your ceiling size. Place the eye hooks in a random pattern on the ceiling. Space the eye hooks a minimum of 6 inches apart. Tie an 8-inch piece of clear fishing line around the body of a silk butterfly. Tie a loop in the end of the fishing line. Repeat the process to create as many butterflies as you have hooks. Hang one butterfly from each eye hook.

Add three-dimensional flair to the wall murals, if desired. For example, use a staple gun to attach silk flowers on top of the painted flower blooms. If you included butterflies or dragonflies, attach silk ones to the walls. For the leaves, use silk leaves. Create a snowman in the winter scene and use real fabric to create its scarf.

To add a fairy twinkle, string white Christmas lights around the curtains or around table legs.

Pair the finished room with the bedding of your choice. Choose Tinker Bell bedding, a solid color or general fairy bedding.

If you are not comfortable with the idea of drawing a mural by hand, rent an overhead projector from an audio-visual company. Use the projector to project images from an online photo-sharing site or from a coloring book on the wall and trace the image onto the wall, before painting.

How to Restart the Rinnai Main Controller

If you own a Rinnai hot water system complete with a secondary recirculation pump, you may come across times when you need to reset the unit via the main controller. For example, if you need to turn off the hot water to complete maintenance on your heating system, you need to restart the heater to start the heating process again. The process for restarting your Rinnai main controller is not difficult to complete.

Turn off all hot water faucets in the building.

Turn off the power to the secondary pump via the breaker panel. If the hot water heater and pump are connected to the same breaker, turn off the water shutoff valve that feeds the secondary pump.

Turn on the water heater at the main remote control by pressing the “on/off” button.

Select the desired water temperature on the main control.

Open the shutoff valve on the secondary pump or turn on the breaker for the secondary pump to complete the reset.

Proper Ventilation for an Attic

Gable vents are necessary to properly ventilate your attic. Air leaks and improper ventilation in your attic can cost you money each month and make the temperature in your home uncomfortable and difficult to regulate. Properly venting the attic also extends the life of your roof shingles and keeps ice from forming on the roof. Installing the proper ventilation in your attic and keeping soffit vents free from debris is key to reducing energy costs each month.

Proper attic ventilation allows a natural flow of air to move through the room. While attics must have insulation for warmth, keeping a flow of cold air through the room in the winter reduces the risk of ice damming on the roof. In the warm months of summer, attic ventilation serves to push warm air out of the room, reducing the moisture that can damage shingles or cause mold to grow.

Insulation is an important part of attic ventilation. Laying rolls of fiberglass insulation is easiest for most homeowners. Begin laying insulation from the perimeter and work toward the attic opening. Avoid placing insulation over soffit vents or light fixtures. Do not place fiberglass insulation near lights; keep it at least 3 inches away to avoid the risk of fire. Installing insulation baffles or rafter vents is recommended when covering your attic in insulation. These vents help move air outside and should be attached to the roof decking.

Attic fans were designed to keep attics cool in the summer by bringing in cooler air from outside the attic. According to the United States Department of Energy (DOE), it is important to check your soffit vents for blockages. If your soffit vents are blocked, attic fans will pull air from inside the home to cool your attic, which will increase the amount of energy you use during the summer. It will also increase wear and tear on your air conditioning unit.

Sealing all air leaks inside your home is a must to keep your attic properly ventilated. Examine your attic for holes and seal them with caulk. Spray foam is also available for sealing air leaks in your attic. Use duct sealant to seal all exposed ducts in your attic. The DOE recommends that homeowners install ducts in garages and attics to increase ventilation, making the house more energy efficient.

A dull gray, concrete driveway can be enhanced with brick or stone pavers. Install the pavers on your own along the surface of the driveway, as well as along sidewalks and paved pathways to and around your home. This not only makes the driveway more noticeable and pleasing to the eye, it will often increase the property value of your home. Before you begin, prepare the surface by power washing to remove dirt, oil and algae from the driveway's surface. A concrete base is always recommended when paving a driveway on a slope.

Landscaping with ornamental grasses and plants will enhance the look of your driveway and create a welcoming atmosphere. Line the incline of the driveway, and move out toward the yard to make the space look full. Along with plants, place decorative lanterns in the soil along the length of the driveway. This will make the area visible for you and your guests as they drive up onto the property at night, while creating a special ambiance at the same time.

To make your driveway stand out from the rest of the block, paint or stain it to match your home. Although it requires special paint, concrete can absorb paints and stains easily. You can also pour new concrete that has colored specks in the stone that become more visible when water is added. To showcase the incline of the driveway, consider painting it to create a gradient-like effect. Start by painting a lighter color at the area closes to the home, and move down the slope gradually with darker colors.

Because your driveway is designed on an incline, rainwater will run down the length of the driveway and into the street or gutters during a heavy rain or whenever you irrigate your property. To keep this rainwater from damaging your landscaping, especially along the bottom of the driveway, use mulch, gravel or thick shrubs to keep the water from washing soil down and damaging your landscape. At the foot of the driveway, plant grasses and plants that can withstand occasionally waterlogged roots, such as tropical plants that are used to rain.
